He received his Juris Doctor with distinction from the University of North Dakota School of Law and served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Erik J. Askegaard, District Court Judge for Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.

Community & Service

Kurt serves the Brainerd Lakes Area through organizations including the Lakes Area Restorative Justice Project and the Coordinating Council for domestic violence. He serves as Secretary-Treasurer for the Crow Wing County / Aitkin County Bar Association and as Church Council Vice-President for Lord of Life Lutheran Church. He also volunteers as a mock trial judge with the MSBA High School Mock Trial program.

In 2022, Kurt received the Minnesota Justice Foundation’s Outstanding Service Award for his
private practice pro bono work with Legal Aid Services of Northeastern Minnesota.
